Avalanche Peak

A steep, relentless climb through forest that opens into scree and a summit ridge with views across Yellowstone Lake to the Tetons. Start early: afternoon thunderstorms build fast and there is no shelter up high. The trail is usually snow-free from July into September, and this is grizzly country, so carry bear spray and make noise.
